SAR Mahoning Valley Chapter honors Revolutionary War veterans

The Sons of the American Revolution's (SAR) Mahoning Valley Chapter held a Saturday ceremony honoring veterans of the Revolutionary War with their first-ever grave marking in Columbiana County.
"The heroes, they put everything on the line. When they went into this, they really didn't have much of a chance," said Steve Barlow, Mahoning Valley Chapter president.
The event took place at Long's Run Trinity Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool and spent the afternoon honoring five patriots of the Revolutionary War, along with some of their ancestors.
"They fought this war that everyone thought was impossible; they were fighting the greatest power on Earth. They were poorly clothed, poorly paid, poorly fed and yet they kept going. They managed to defeat the most powerful nation on Earth. It was nothing short of a miracle," Barlow said.
At the event, Barlow emphasised the importance of teaching our youth about how our country's freedom came to be.
"The freedom that we got from this revolution was unheard of in the world," Barlow said.
While Saturday was the first-ever Columbiana County SAR grave marking, the organization was established in 1889 and works toward "promoting patriotism, serving our communities and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our Country."
