MAHONING & SHENANGO VALLEYS - Veterans Day will be celebrated across the nation on Nov. 11. That falls on a Tuesday this year.

In the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys, businesses and communities are anticipated to celebrate the holiday with events, parades or special offers.

21 News has compiled a list of them below.

Also, remember that Veterans' Day is a Federal holiday, meaning most Federal government offices, post offices and most banks will be closed.

EVENTS AND PROGRAMS 

Monday, November 10

  • Veterans Appreciation Dinner at Harvesting Hope in Your Community (230 South 12th Street, Sebring) at 5:45 p.m. A free dinner is featured for veterans and one guest. Those looking to attend must RSVP by November 1 by calling 330-428-4873 and leaving a message.
  • Polish for Patriots at Trumbull Career & Technical Center campus (528 Educational Highway, Warren) happening from Nov. 10 until Nov. 14. Free exterior detailing services for veterans' vehicles. Services include washing, waxing and polishing. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 330-847-0503 ext. 1308

Tuesday, November 11

  • Veterans Day at Birdfish Brewing Company (140 East Park Avenue, Columbiana) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Flight Crew & Northeast Ohio Craft Beverage News will be covering the first $150 in pours to celebrate veterans who have served or still serve. Additionally, veterans will receive a 16-ounce Birdfish Wille Becher Pub Glass print to take home.
  • Veterans Day Open Mic Night at Third Independent Presbyterian Church (1315 East Washington Street, New Castle, Pennsylvania) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The free event encourages community members to join the stage and honor those who served with a song, poem, performance or other act.
  • Veterans Breakfast at Bass Pro Shops (2390 Niles Cortland Road SE, Warren) at 9 a.m. The event features breakfast and coffee, with a free Challenge Coin giveaway for all veterans.
  • Veterans Day Buffet at The Grandview Tavern (371 Grandview Road, Lake Milton) from noon to 10 p.m., or until the food runs out. The buffet is free for veterans with Proof of Service, or $15 for non-veterans.
  • Veterans Day Program at Southern Local Junior/Senior High School (38095 OH-39, Salineville) at 9:30 a.m. Students of all grade levels will present the free program to any interested member of the public. Veterans are invited to attend a hospitality hour starting at 8:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. Coffee and a light breakfast will be served.
  • Letters to Veterans at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County (PLYMC) - Austintown (600 South Raccoon Road, Austintown) from 11 a.m. to noon. Community members of all ages are invited to write a letter to thank veterans for their service and dedication. If you can't make it to this event, you can also stop in from November 1 to November 15 to write one. Letters will be sent on November 15.
  • Military Records Research at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County (PLYMC) - Poland (311 South Main Street, Poland) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Veterans are encouraged to join librarian Tim Seman to find resources and methods to find and understand military records.
  • Boardman Schools Veterans Day Programs
    Glenwood Junior High — Veterans Day Assembly at 9 a.m., with a US Army Veteran, Arielle McNutt, with refreshments afterward.Robinwood Elementary — 3rd Grade Patriotic Concert at 9 am. Also joining in the assembly will be YSU President Bill Johnson, Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro. Those attending should call 330-726-3414 and provide name, military branch of service. All veterans, active service members and their families are invited to attend.
    West Boulevard Elementary — Veterans Luncheon at 11 am - 12:45 pm.
    Center Intermediate — “Lunch with a Veteran” from 11:20 am–1:20 pm in the gym.
    Boardman High School — Veterans Lunch at 10:15- 11:30 am, catered by Mission BBQ.
  • Veterans Day Program at Heritage Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, 517 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown. Veteran residents, Levy Gardens Assisted Living tenants, and Adult Day Services at Heritage Manor clients will be honored at 2 p.m. in a ceremony, where each veteran will be recognized, presented with a certificate and pin, and receive a salute.
  • VFW Post 3307 Veterans Day Dinner, 1357 Albert St., Youngstown. Starts at 4 p.m., veterans eat free.
  • East Palestine Veterans Day Assembly, 8:30 a.m., 360 W. Grant St, East Palestine. The school district is honoring those who have served with an assembly followed by a breakfast. Veterans and guests are asked to arrive by 8:15 am at HS-4 door on the west side of the building. 
  • 4th Annual Sticks & Slices at Cut & Toast Premium Cigars & Accessories (160 Lowellville Rd, Struthers) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Veterans will receive a free cigar and pizza. 
  • Texas Roadhouse (All Locations) will continue its annual Veterans Day tradition of treating veterans and active U.S. military to enjoy a free meal. Every Texas Roadhouse location will distribute meal vouchers from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Proof of service is required and includes military or VA card, or discharge papers. Vouchers can be redeemed through May 31, 2026.

BUSINESS OFFERS AND PROMOTIONS

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors is giving 10% off an entire purchase online or in-store from October 19 to November 11 for veterans and active duty members.
  • Applebee's is offering all active duty military, veterans, reserves and National Guard members a complimentary full-size entrée from an exclusive Veterans Day menu. An ID must be presented and the offer is only valid when dining in.
  • Covelli Enterprise-owned locations are holding a variety of free items or discounts for select participating restaurants. A full list of those items and offerings can be found here.
  • Denny's is offering active and retired military personnel to enjoy a free Original Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon local time at participating Denny's locations. The grand slam features two pancakes, two strips of bacon, two sausage links and two eggs made to order. An ID must be presented.
  • BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse is giving active-duty and retired military dine-in a free chocolate chunk pizookie. November 12 through December 31, those who have served and purchase an entree will receive a free appetizer for the next visit.
  • Bob Evans is giving a free meal from a select menu on November 11. Dine-in only.
  • Chili's is giving active duty and vets a free meal for dine-in only on November 11.
  • Circle K is free medium iced or hot coffee to veterans.,
  • Crackel Barrel, November 11, free sunrise pancake special for vets.
  • Eat'n Park is offering veterans and active duty 10% off for themselves and their entire party, dine in only, from November 1 through November 30.
  • Great Clips - Great Clips local locations (Liberty, Austintown, Boardman, Niles, Howland, Salem, Hermitage) are offering free haircuts to all veterans and active-duty military members on Tuesday, November 11. See store locations for hours. 
  • Kohl's is offering active-duty military, veterans, retirees and immediate family members 30% off one purchase, in-store only, on November 10 and 11. Some exclusions apply.
  • Little Caesars is giving active duty and veterans a free lunch combo, which includes four slices of its Detroit-style pizza and a 20-ounce beverage on November 11.
  • Mission BBQ locations are offering a free sandwich to veterans to recognize their service. There will also be a live performance of the National Anthem at noon on Veterans Day.
  • Olive Garden is offering veterans and active military personnel a complimentary dine-in entrée from a special menu.
  • Outback Steakhouse is offering a free three-course meal (select entees only) on November 10 and 11.
  • Starbucks is giving those who have served a free-12 ounce hot or iced coffee on November 11.
  • Target is offering a 10 percent discount through November 11 on groceries excluding alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery tickets, postage stamps and money services. The discount can be used on two separate transactions. 
  • Red Lobster is offering active duty military personnel and veterans a free meal from an exclusive menu that includes an entree and a non-alcoholic beverage. The offer is available dine-in only and an ID or proof of service must be presented.
  • Sheetz is giving a half turkey sub (includes extras and add-ons) and a regular size fountain drink. Sheetz locations with car washes are also offering a free wash ($9 option only).
  • Sports Clips will provide a free haircut to veterans and active duty members. 
  • Tractor Supply is giving 10% discount on November 11 for veterans and active duty members. 
  • Walgreens is giving 20% off regular price eligible store items from November 8 through 11 for veterans and active duty members. 
  • Wendy's is giving a free breakfast combo during breakfast hours (see locations) on November 11.
  • Primanti Bros. is giving away free "Almost Famous" sandwiches to all retired and active duty military members Tuesday, November 11. This offer is valid for dine-in only.
  • McDonald's is giving veterans with a valid military ID a free breakfast, lunch or dinner combo meal at participating locally-owned locations in Northeast Ohio. Limit of one free combo per customer.
