Grand jury to hear case of Liberty trustee accused of assaulting wife

NILES The case of a Liberty Township trustee accused of assaulting his wife is now in the hands of a grand jury.
According to court records, Liberty Township Trustee Devon Stanley waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the Niles Municipal Court.
His case has now been bound over to the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas, where a grand jury will decide if there is enough evidence to indict Stanley on a charge of felonious assault.
Stanley will continue to be held in the Trumbull County Jail without bond.
During an arraignment hearing Monday morning, it was alleged that Stanley had punched his wife in the ribs and face, causing her ribs and nose to break.
Stanley and his attorney denied those allegations, with his attorney arguing that Stanley is a longtime lawyer and has no criminal record. However, the judge decided to hold him without bond due to concerns for the alleged victim.
