Doorbell camera initiative expands in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. has installed 396 doorbell cameras this year as part of its ongoing Community Safety program.
The installations, completed by YNDC team members, took place across the 2nd Ward and in designated new construction zones throughout the city. YNDC staff went door-to-door in targeted areas to install cameras for residents who chose to participate in the program.
The initiative was established based on input from residents seeking measures to decrease crime, enhance feelings of security, and improve relationships with the Youngstown Police Department.
The Community Safety program involves residents, neighborhood organizations, and the police, aiming to foster collaboration and trust among homeowners, business owners along commercial strips, and law enforcement.
In addition to the camera installations at homes and businesses in areas with higher rates of violent crime, the program is installing new LED lighting at businesses along the corridors.
YNDC, a neighborhood development organization founded in 2009, also plans to host meetings involving residents and police to further positive exchanges with the local department.
The organization works toward strategic reinvestment, focusing on transforming neighborhoods into places where people feel confident about the future of their community.
