WARREN A second person has been charged with animal cruelty following the rescue of two malnourished dogs in Warren, according to court records filed Monday.

Brent Williams, 44, of Warren, faces two counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. The charges stem from an incident last week, where two dogs were found emaciated and without food or water at a home on the 1800 block of Victoria Avenue SW.

Williams' case was filed in Warren Municipal Court on Monday.

The initial charges in this case were filed against 44-year-old Nathaniel Adams late last week, also for two counts of animal cruelty.

Adams turned himself in on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.  Another court hearing is set for next month.  As part of his bond condition, Adams is prohibited from possessing animals.

Court records list both Adams and Williams as living at the same address.

Jason Cooke, founder of Healthy Hearts and Paws Animal Project, which assisted in the rescue, previously reported that both dogs were infested with fleas, and one had an infected ear. The animals were taken to an animal hospital for treatment, where they were also diagnosed with heartworm.
