YOUNGSTOWN Authorities arrested two men late Monday following an investigation into reports of vehicles, including a marked police cruiser and a transit bus, being struck by paintballs.

Tyler Duffy, 21, and Kit Glass, 20, were taken into custody and booked into the Mahoning County Jail on charges of obstructing official business and vehicular vandalism. Both men were released Tuesday.

The incident began around 11 p.m. Monday when a Youngstown police officer reported his cruiser was hit by paintballs near the Spring Commons Bridge. The officer discovered the damage after pulling into the police garage.

Another driver stopped and told police his vehicle was also hit while he was driving on Mahoning Avenue. He believed the paintballs were fired from the elevated train tracks over the street.

Responding officers searched the area of the train tracks near Oak Hill Avenue and Marshall Street.

One Officer in a police car reported seeing two people running from the tracks near the B&O Station and shouted for them to stop. The two people then fled.

Police surrounded the area, used a drone, and made public address announcements in the area. Officers located two males, later identified as Glass and Duffy, walking on Mahoning Avenue near West Avenue.

The men were taken into custody in a parking lot as they were being picked up by Duffy's mother, who told police they had called her for a ride. An officer said Duffy was carrying a CO2 cylinder, which can be used to propel paintballs.

While officers were still investigating, a Western Reserve Transit Authority driver came up to the police reporting that the bus had been hit by paintballs on Mahoning Avenue. Police say the bus was struck several times on the sides and front.

During the booking process, Glass reportedly made a comment to an officer that the bus had only been occupied by the driver when it was hit.

The police officer whose cruiser was initially hit reported no damage to the vehicle. No paintball guns were found near the scene or on the men.
