Driver pleads ‘not guilty’ to charges in Salem Township fatal crash

LISBON A Spencer, West Virginia, man entered a plea of not guilty Monday in Columbiana County Municipal Court to two charges stemming from a fatal January 2023 traffic crash in Salem Township.
Anthony Thornabar, 38, of Spencer, West Virginia, faces a first-degree misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide and a second-degree misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter in connection with the Jan. 30, 2023, collision that resulted in the death of 44-year-old Trevor Reed of Lisbon.
According to a report from the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Thornabar was driving a Ram pickup truck eastbound on Teegarden Road when he failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a Nissan Altima, driven by Reed, traveling southbound on State Route 45.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene. Thornabar was taken to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.
A crash reconstruction report was completed and forwarded to prosecutors in November 2023, leading to the charges filed in January 2024.
Thornabar's attorney entered the written not guilty plea on Monday. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.
