STRUTHERS, Ohio - A 17-year-old Struthers High School student was taken into custody during the school day Monday. Poland Township Police and the Mahoning County Drug Task Force had a warrant for his arrest after searching a home on Saginaw Drive. There they found three pistols and large amounts of THC cartridges and psychedelic mushrooms.

Police believe the 17-year-old was selling the drugs to middle and high schoolers in multiple districts. They say a month-long investigation found that at least one child had an adverse effect on the drugs given to them.

When police went to arrest the juvenile at the school they found cartridges on him and more in his car parked on school property.

Greg Wilson, the Poland Township Police chief, said his department's “highest priority is to safeguard our kids.”

The juvenile lives in the Poland Township home with his parents and is facing three counts of possession of firearms and one count of possession of drugs. Police told 21 News they expect to charge additional suspects involved in the investigation.

Police believe the drugs were being purchased from retail stores from out of state which could possibly result in federal charges.

Struthers Superintendent Peter Pirone would not say if the investigation involves any other students and added they're waiting on the police investigation for any student disciplinary actions

The 17-year-old is being held in the Mahoning County Jail until he answers to the charges in juvenile court.
