City of Youngstown to upgrade traffic signals at 17 intersections

YOUNGSTOWN The city of Youngstown proposed to replace or remove existing traffic signals at 17 different intersections along Market Street and Indianola Avenue, according to a Wednesday news release.
The changes proposed would happen within the city, and the release states that "this project will improve vehicle and pedestrian safety, enhance pedestrian accessibility, allow better traffic flow, and remove unneeded traffic signals."
The proposed traffic signal replacements will include:
- Market Street & Midlothian Boulevard
- Market Street & Southern Boulevard
- Market Street & Idianola Avenue
- Market Street & Dewey Avenue
- Market Street & Williamson Avenue
- Market Street & Woodland Avenue
- Indianola Avenue & South Avenue
The proposed traffic signal removals will include:
- Market Street & Auburndale Avenue
- Market Street & Hylda Avenue
- Market Street & West Warren Avenue
- Market Street & Delason Avenue
- Market Street & Myrtle Avenue
- Glenwood Avenue & Parkview Avenue
- Indianola Avenue & Hillman Street
- Indianola Avenue & Oak Hill Avenue
- Indianola Avenue & Rush Boulevard
- Indianola Avenue & Gibson Street
Access to all businesses and properties will be maintained at all times during construction, with no detours required or substantial traffic disruptions expected, according to the release.
The release states that while a majority of the proposed project will be constructed within the existing roadway right-of-way, minor amounts of new permanent and/or temporary right-of-way will be needed to facilitate project construction.
Construction of the project is expected to begin in the summer of 2027.
