Keystone Safari welcomes tiny, new resident: a giant anteater pup

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Keystone Safari is celebrating another new arrival: a giant anteater pup, born Oct. 19 to first-time parents Helga and Hugo, the park announced.
The birth marks the first for the giant anteater pair at the interactive zoo and adventure park, located in Grove City.
Park officials said the gender of the newborn is currently undetermined, as staff is limiting interaction to allow the mother and baby essential bonding time. Helga, the mother, holds a special place at the park, having been hand-reared at Keystone Safari.
“Seeing her thrive as a first-time mom is truly special for our team,” a park statement read.
Newborn giant anteaters typically cling tightly to their mother’s back for up to a year as they develop and learn to navigate their environment. The pup is not yet visible to guests, but updates and photos are expected in the coming weeks.
The giant anteater, scientifically known as Myrmecophaga tridactyla, is the largest of the four anteater species. They are native to Central and South America and are classified as a vulnerable species due to habitat loss.
The new arrival comes shortly after the park named its new female giraffe calf, Savannah, in September, following a naming contest.
Keystone Safari is located at 2284 Mercer Butler Pike.
