YOUNGSTOWN A former Youngstown resident was sentenced on Thursday to 40 years in prison for distributing fentanyl that led to a death in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.

According to a news release from the Department of Justice for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Eliot Gentry, 28, was sentenced for several drug-related charges.

Gentry previously pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl that would later result in a death within Mercer County on January 23, 2022, and conspiring to distribute 400 or more grams of fentanyl, 100 grams or more of fluorofentanyl and five kilograms or more of cocaine between May of 2021 and October of 2022.

Following Gentry's 40-year prison term, he is also ordered to serve five years of supervised release.

According to information presented to the court, Gentry had orchestrated and operated a multi-state drug trafficking scheme throughout 2021 and 2022 that involved large amounts of fentanyl, fluorofentanyl and cocaine throughout the areas of Mercer and Lawrence Counties in Pennsylvania and in Youngstown.

As part of his operations, Gentry employed dealers, who included juveniles, to work in the traphouses he established in Mercer County.

These traphouses, according to the release, contained narcotics and firearms.

Gentry is mentioned to have had prior convictions and state prison sentences for violent and drug trafficking crimes, along with continuing to operate the drug trafficking scheme while incarcerated for a brief time in 2022.
