WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio - Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro has proposed a resurfacing project that would impact two roads in Weathersfield Township.

The $750,000 project proposes to mill and resurface approximately 0.90 miles of Salt Springs Road from Austintown-Warren Road to Salt Springs Road, as well as 0.93 miles of Niles Carver Road from Salt Springs Road to the southern Niles corporation limits.

Work will also include the replacement of three culverts on Salt Springs Road between Austintown-Warren Road and Carson Salt Springs Road, as well as the replacement of two culverts on Niles Carver Road between McKees Lane and Salt Springs Road.

Additionally, the project proposes partial-depth pavement repairs and the application of pavement markings throughout the newly-paved sections of the roadways.

The project is expected to begin in the spring or summer of 2026. During the construction period, traffic will be maintained at all times on both roadways, except when it is necessary to close the roadways for a maximum of two weeks during the replacement of each cross culvert.

During the closure period, the detour route for Salt Springs Road will utilize Austintown-Warren Road and Salt Springs Road.

The detour route for Niles Carver Road between Ohltown-McDonald Road and the southern Niles corporation limits will utilize Ohltown-McDonald Road, Salt Springs Road, State Route 46 and McKees Lane, and the detour route for Niles Carver Road between Ohltown-McDonald Road and Salt Springs Road will utilize Ohltown-McDonald Road and Salt Springs Road.

The two Niles Carver Road closures will not occur simultaneously.

During the construction and closure periods, access will be maintained to all adjacent properties, businesses and intersecting side streets within the construction limits.

The project will result in minor stream and wetland impacts and the removal of habitat for various species protected by the Endangered Species Act. No cultural resources will be affected by the project and no regulated material concerns were identified.

DeChristofaro is seeking any questions, comments or concerns the public may have related to the proposed project. Any questions or concerns should be sent to Gary Shaffer by December 15 at the Trumbull County Engineer's Office on North River Road.
