TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - On October 14, Senator Bernie Moreno stepped out of Insight Trumbull and Medical Center, marking the start of the reopening process.

But, that process is not short. One month open for the Insight Trumbull County Hospital, and services are slowly starting to come back.

Insight is currently offering outpatient emergency services, and the hope continues to be fully operational by the end of next year.

Trumbull County Commissioner Rick Hernandez spoke with Insight. He said the hospital employees are seeing between 15 and 20 patients a day.

“Our hope is that this hospital will be functioning at full capacity once again, like they had mentioned, at least, get the doors open, and they're even in a hiring process now, so they're looking for RNs,” said Hernandez.

That hiring process is expected to continue throughout the year. Right now there are 50 staffers in the building. They'll need about a thousand once the hospital is fully operational.

Other agencies are continuing to closely watch the facility.

“ODH has been there, and all those deficiencies have been satisfied. ODH is, you know, auditing them on a monthly basis. And in addition to that, they feel very comfortable with CMS, which is a licensing to continue their Medicare and Medicaid service,” said Hernandez.

When they reopened last month, an Insight spokesperson said they'd offer inpatient and outpatient services, but Hernandez said they are not able to provide inpatient services yet.

Insight sent 21 a statement showing optimism for the hospital’s future.

“Our first month reopened as a nonprofit hospital is just the beginning of providing accessible and compassionate patient care second to none. Working together, we’ve shown this hospital has an important purpose in the community and we look forward to continuing to be a lifeline 24/7.”

I reached out to a union representative to see how employees feel about the first month of operations. The rep said despite the doors being open, there are other problems with operations. 21 News will follow up with the union reps.
