SOUTHINGTON, Ohio - What was being classified as a "police incident" had closed a section of Route 534 near Southington, according to OHGO.com, using information available as of 9:20 p.m. on Friday. 

According to information from the OHGO website, both directions of Route 534 between Nelson Mosier Road and Shanks Phalanx Road were closed due to a "police incident." 

According to Press Secretary Steve Irwin from the Ohio Attorney General's Office, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) was requested by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting in the area.

Irwin specified that no officers are reported to have been injured in the incident.

According to a news release from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, several agencies responded to the area after a call to 911 reported a man in the roadway brandishing a firearm.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers approached an armed suspect. Shots were fired, and the subject was taken to University Hospital in Portage County, where he later died.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time.

Drivers were being asked to avoid the area at the time and find an alternative route.

According to a dispatcher from the Trumbull County 911 dispatch center, the incident in the area is being investigated by the BCI.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) confirmed at 10:10 p.m. that several more units from BCI had arrived on scene.

As of 11:50 p.m., crews cleared the scene and the roadway was reopened.

The release from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office states that the incident continues to be investigated by the BCI, and additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
