Several Valley organizations, individuals honored for National Philanthropy Day

BOARDMAN Several organizations and individuals from the Mahoning Valley were honored on Friday night as part of National Philanthropy Day.
Volunteers, nonprofits and other organizations were all honored at the event for their efforts in giving back to the Mahoning Valley.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals Mahoning-Shenango Chapter held the event at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center, located at 7440 South Avenue in Boardman.
According to a release outlining the event, National Philanthropy Day is set aside to recognize community members who embrace philanthropy as a way of life.
The 2025 honorees included in the release are listed as follows:
- Outstanding Philanthropist - Fred Moran and Family
- Outstanding Small Business Philanthropist - Daprile Insurance Group
- Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser - Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II
- Outstanding Volunteer Fundraising Group - The Butler Institute American Holiday Committee
- Outstanding Youth Philanthropists - Isabella Williams
- Outstanding Foundation - Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley
- Legacy Award (presented posthumously) - David and Benita Penner of Blessed Memory
- Special Recognition for Valley Impact - Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley Volunteers
Katelynn McBee, Development Coordinator for Potential Development, told 21 News that the event is more than just monetary philanthropy.
"This event is just a great reminder that philanthropy doesn't necessarily mean the amount of money that someone is able to give, but also the time and talent that we can give back to make a real impact in the Mahoning Valley," said McBee.
WFMJ Today anchor Steve Vesey was at the event as the emcee, helping to honor this year's recipients.
