Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters hosts art auction, craft show in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN The Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters met at the Calvin Center for the Arts, located at 755 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown, to host an art auction and craft show.
The event is in place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
It is noted that those wishing to participate in the auction can do so online until 4:30 p.m. Several works are featured on the auction website depicting artwork that "speaks to resistance, freedom and the power of community."
The proceeds gathered during the event and through the auction will go towards two different organizations, being Thrive Mahoning Valley's Thrive Days and Full Spectrum Community Outreach's food pantry.
Executive Director of the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters, Helena Komsa, told 21 News that the goal of the event was to lift up community voices.
"This has been a really rough year for a lot of people, through SNAP benefits being cut and everything going on at the federal level of the government. We're trying to bring our community together through art and mutual aid," said Komsa.
In addition to the auction, organizers also hosted a food drive to help support Valley families during the holiday season.
Canned goods, non-perishable and shelf-stable pantry items and hygiene items were requested as part of the food drive.
Komsa says that this is all part of a larger, newly founded initiative called the "Freedom Fighter Family Pantry."
"We've started a new initiative called the Freedom Fighter Family Pantry, so we're building and constructing family pantry boxes throughout Mahoning County and the nearby counties, so we need help stocking these pantries," said Komsa.
