YOUNGSTOWN The Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 344 Oak Hill Avenue in Youngstown, held a tour Saturday afternoon to help educate visitors on a few Civil War veterans buried at the site.

The tour took place from 11:45 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Elizabeth Carnahan, a historian with the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, alongside Steffon Jones, a member of the Oak Hill Volunteer Research Team, led the event.

Together, the two led the tour to several grave markers of veterans who fought in the Civil War and are now buried in the soldiers' lot of the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jones told 21 News that events like these help the public learn more about the past and the history of soldiers from the area.

"It is important to always remember and to rehash this for future people to know the history. These people are buried here and had lives. We can't move forward without remembering our past," said Jones.
