WASHINGTON - The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced increases in premiums, deductibles, and copayments for Medicare Parts A and B for 2026. The new amounts take effect on Jan. 1, 2026, according to information released late last week.

Medicare Part A covers inpatient care, such as hospital stays and skilled nursing facility services. The Part B program covers medical services like doctor visits, outpatient care, and certain medical equipment.

Part B Premiums and Deductibles

The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B will be $202.90 in 2026. This represents an increase of $17.90 from the 2025 premium of $185.00.

The annual deductible for Part B will rise to $283, an increase of $26 from the 2025 deductible of $257. Officials attribute the increase primarily to changes in projected prices and an assumed rise in the use of medical services.

About 8% of people with Part B pay a higher monthly premium based on their income. These income-related monthly adjustment amounts result in higher total monthly premiums for people with adjusted gross incomes above $109,000 and couples filing jointly above $218,000.

Part A Costs

The inpatient hospital deductible for Medicare Part A will be $1,736 in 2026, which is $60 higher than the 2025 amount of $1,676. This deductible covers a beneficiary’s share of costs for the first 60 days of hospital care within a benefit period.

Daily coinsurance for extended hospital stays and skilled nursing facilities will also increase:

Hospital coinsurance for days 61-90 of a stay will be $434 per day, up from $419.

Skilled nursing facility coinsurance for days 21-100 will be $217.00 per day, up from $209.50.

About 99% of beneficiaries do not pay a monthly premium for Part A due to their work history. However, some individuals who do not have enough quarters of covered employment must pay a monthly premium to enroll.

Part D Income Adjustments

Beneficiaries with higher incomes also pay an income-related monthly adjustment amount on top of their chosen Part D prescription drug plan premium. The adjusted amounts for 2026 will affect about 8% of Part D participants.

For example, individuals with incomes between $109,000 and $137,000, and couples with incomes between $218,000 and $274,000 will pay an additional $14.50 a month. The Part D adjustment amounts increase with income, reaching $91.00 a month for the highest income bracket.
