STRUTHERS A newly constructed, energy-efficient home is now on the market in Struthers, listed for $180,000.

The single-family home, located at 42 East Wilson Street in Struthers, is approximately 1,400 square feet, featuring three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open concept living, kitchen and dining area.

Additionally, the home has a first-floor laundry room, a front porch and a two-car detached garage.

The project, according to a release, was made possible through a joint effort between the Mahoning County Land Bank, the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) and the City of Struthers.

Additionally, the release states that the home was built by Joe Koch Construction.

"There aren't that many blank spaces on this canvas here, but now we have even one fewer... Neighborhoods like to have that kind of stability when it comes to density," said Debora Flora, Executive Director of the Mahoning County Land Bank.

The Mahoning County Land Bank was awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Development's "Welcome Home Ohio" grant program, allowing for the purchase of a vacant lot.

The "Welcome Home Ohio" grant program is outlined on the Ohio Department of Development's website as a program that distributes grants to certain entities to allow them to purchase qualifying residential properties or build or rehabilitate a property.

"It's another opportunity for someone who maybe has been looking for a house and maybe they didn't find the right price point. They can very well find it here, and new construction to boot," said Flora.

The home in Struthers is one of three houses that the YNDC is working on outside of the city of Youngstown.

Down-payment assistance is available through a partnership with Huntington Park for eligible buyers interested in the home.

Flora also told 21 News that the Mahoning County Land Bank would have other homes in Youngstown that would be finished at some point in December of 2025 and January of 2026.

"We know that the area is sitting on a lot of opportunity when it comes to new job creation, employment training opportunities and housing is part of the whole piece of the puzzle. People need a good, solid place to live," said Flora.
