Western Reserve Elementary students hold Thanksgiving Day parade

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio - Students across several grades held their own version of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Tuesday, inviting the school to participate in the district-wide celebration.
The school, located at 13850 West Akron-Canfield Road in Berlin Center, transformed its main hallway into the parade route.
According to a news release outlining the event, the parade is a district-wide effort that spans several grades. The aim is to teach students more about the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) jobs associated with the parade.
"Students in kindergarten through fifth grade engage in STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and this project has been a great way to tie all the STEAM students' lessons together," said STEAM teacher and event organizer Samantha Steele.
This is the second year that the Western Reserve Local School District has put on the Thanksgiving Day parade event.
Each grade level has a different aspect of the parade that they are responsible for, including:
- Kindergarten and first graders color and cut animals, along with working on paper balloon designs
- Grades two through five construct balloons and floats out of recyclable materials
- The high school interior design class makes and installs decorations for the hallway
"This really is a school-wide event that brings all grade levels together for a nice kick-off to the holiday season," said Steele.
