New mayor, council members sworn in, in Campbell
The city of Campbell has a brand new mayor after the unexpected passing of the city's former mayor, Bryan Tedesco.
As Bill Valentino takes office, he feels the city is in a good place and wants to continue building on that.
"The reason I'm standing here is for what I've done the last 15 years that's why I'm here, I've given myself to this city last 15 years and I don't plan on stopping," Valentino said.
He does however, plan on using what the city already has to make improvements.
"They've been talking grocery stores for so many years, they've been talking about that brown fields and grocery stores, which I don't think we're not going to get it, but I think we need to concentrate on what we have in the city and make our city better," Valentino said. "I'm gonna try to stick to more things that make what we have better, I feel we need another zoning guy to clamp down on some stuff, some empty buildings, just try to make what we have better and maybe we'll open somebody's eyes to bring a business in to the city," he said.
Also sworn in were new council members Mary Janek and Ioannis Kalouris who voiced concerns over working street lights as well a need for more jobs.
"I was approached by a number of constituents while I was campaigning or prior to and that's a really big concern for them is that we don't have a lot of the street lights on," Janek said. "We should, I think, switch over to LED lights and a matter of contracting with Ohio Edison, getting them here to one help flip over our lights that would save the city a lot of money and a lot of money and electric bills, but then two make sure that our lights are all working," she said.
"What Campbell is lacking is jobs," Kalouris said. "You know, that's the biggest thing I think that's gonna drive this city forward is providing the community with more jobs and just that way we get an influx of maybe young families. We have a lot of vacant land that can be utilized," he said.
Both council members believe the new mayor will be helpful in continuing to steer the city in a good direction.
"I just know that the communication will be there in every aspect. Our new mayor is going to follow in the path that Bryan Tedesco had set in place," Janek said.
