COLUMBIANA, Ohio -  Snow on the ground and a chill in the air didn't stop hundreds of racers from lacing up their shoes for Twas the Night Before 5k, in Columbiana.

The night-race, sponsored by the Siembida & Boggs Philanthropic Foundation, allowed participants to run through the festive light displays of the "Joy Of Christmas," Light Show at Firestone Park. When it first began, 13 years ago, organizers say there were just over 200 participants—now it has blossomed to more than 800.

Organizing the event, however, has become a team effort over the years.

"Having the community come out and support us, I can't put that into words, but it's a lot of work. A lot of volunteers, the city has to be involved, Joy of Christmas show, the park, it's a lot of moving parts. But at the end of the day it's worth it to help those families," Race Director Josh Boggs said.

Local businesses like Hogan's Bakery and BirdFish Brewing also contributed to the race, offering racers cookies and hot soup at the finish line.

This year's race proceeds benefitted Heroes and Halos, providing winter clothing and other essentials to families across the Valley.
