Struthers man accused of Carhartt shoplifting spree at Boardman store

BOARDMAN A Struthers man faces a theft charge after Boardman police said they found him carrying trash bags and gift bags filled with unpaid Carhartt workwear merchandise.
Alvin Patrick Traylor, 58, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Mahoning County Court on a first-degree misdemeanor count of theft.
The charge stems from an incident on Nov. 17 at the Lowe’s on Doral Drive. According to a police report, officers were initially called to the area around 2:30 p.m. regarding a suspect wanted on a separate warrant.
When police located and arrested Traylor nearby, they searched his possessions, which included two black trash bags and two "Happy Birthday" gift bags. Inside the bags, officers reported finding Carhartt apparel, including:
Seven Carhartt sweatshirts in green, gray, brown, tan, maroon, blue, and black, all size large and still bearing price tags.
Nine Carhartt hats in various colors.
Loose store tags and a broken clothing hanger.
Store managers told police they discovered damaged security tags hidden inside a hat left behind in the store. Staff members also reported that surveillance footage appeared to show the suspect concealing a sweatshirt inside a bag before leaving.
One Carhartt sweatshirt is valued at approximately $67.
Traylor remains in the Mahoning County jail.
