Community members were at St. Bartholomew Church in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, on Friday night to participate in a bingo game that aimed to support those in need of food ahead of the holiday season.

The event, named Bingo Lingo, put a twist on the traditional bingo game, letting participants sing some of their favorite songs during the game.

Prizes, additional chance games, and an opportunity for fellowship, fun and community were also featured as part of the event.

Tickets to the event were $30, each going toward purchasing meals for the community. For every ticket purchased, the Mercer County Food Bank would be able to distribute 60 meals.

"The community came out in droves to support our mission to ensure our neighbors have the food they need this holiday season," said Becky Page, Executive Director of the Mercer County Food Bank.

Page specified that in the month of November, more than 10,000 new people had come into the Mercer County Food Bank in need of assistance, an increase they have not seen before.

"They showed up to ensure that families have the food they need right here in Mercer County, especially now that we're into the winter months and heading into the holiday season, one of the busiest times in the food bank game," said Page.

Page told 21 News that the organization had originally had a goal of 20,000 meals as part of the event, but they had already exceeded that goal before the evening had ended.
