The coordinator at Mahoning County's "only humane society and a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a full-service vet clinic" announced her retirement on Saturday via a post on social media.

Jane MacMurchy worked with the Animal Charity of Ohio and the surrounding community for almost 9 years, according to the post, which consisted of years working "so hard to fight for change, to build a better future, to save as many lives as possible, but also to be there for each other and work together."

MacMurchy also stated the thankfulness of the community members over her time in the position, as well as the number of other organizations that have helped along the way.

"I have met so many amazing people over the almost 9 years of working in the community. There have been so many organizations and people that knew exactly what I was fighting for, I can't say thank you enough for working with me to try and be the change needed for so many," MacMurchy states.

MacMurchy, a former member of the United States Marine Corps, stated that she cannot survive without serving the community that she has worked so hard to change. She also stated her current future in the community is unknown at this time.
