COLUMBUS, Ohio - Former Ohio Lieutenant Governor and current U.S. Senator Jon Husted will file for candidacy in the 2026 Senate race.

Husted, is currently filling the remainder of former U.S. Senator and current Vice President J.D. Vance's term. In order to retain his seat in the U.S. Senate, Husted must run for election in 2026.

Husted will file for the 2026 Primary Election in Ohio on Friday, December 12.

Husted was appointed to Vance's seat in the Senate by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine in January of 2025 ahead of the inauguration of President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance.

Former Youngstown State University football coach and president, as well as former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel was chosen to fulfill Husted's role of Lieutenant Governor.
