Columbiana County in top 10 for deer during Ohio gun season

Gun season for deer hunters ended on Sunday, Dec. 7, in Ohio, with more than 85,000 deer reported checked according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
The Division of Wildlife annually reports deer harvest totals at notable points during the hunting season. During the deer gun week, hunters checked 27,934 antlered deer (33% of total reported) and 57,514 antlerless deer (67%).
The top 10 counties for deer taken during the gun season were:
- Coshocton, 3,037
- Ashtabula, 3,031
- Tuscarawas, 2,764
- Muskingum, 2,581
- Knox, 2,558
- Carroll, 2,440
- Licking, 2,046
- Ashland, 2,037
- Columbiana, 1,968
- Harrison, 1,912
Coshocton also led the state in 2024.
Since the deer archery hunting season opened in September, archery and firearms hunters have taken 187,283 deer through Sunday, Dec. 7.
With roughly 2,000 fewer than in 2024, Ohio's gun season has a three-year average of 76,409 deer checked.
