Streets flood as water main splits open in Struthers

STRUTHERS, Ohio - Repairs are underway and water service has been suspended for some residents following a water main break that flooded Youngstown-Poland Road early Wednesday.
Aqua Ohio reported at 5:48 a.m. that service had been cut to facilitate repairs, with work expected to last between four and 12 hours. The utility estimates fewer than 100 customers are affected.
Service is currently off on Youngstown-Poland Road between Wingate Road and Geneva Avenue. Outages also impact Brandon Avenue from Eighth Street to Youngstown-Poland Road and from Sheridan Avenue to Youngstown-Poland Road.
The break was first identified around 1 a.m. when a Struthers police patrolman spotted water bubbling up from the pavement at the intersection of Youngstown-Poland Road and Brandon Avenue. By 1:30 a.m., water had begun to flood the street.
Police contacted Aqua Ohio to dispatch crews and requested salt trucks to treat the roadway against hazardous icing conditions caused by the freezing water.
