OSU Extension to host virtual series on Mediterranean diet

CANFIELD, Ohio - Ohio State University Extension will launch a monthly online education series this January focused on the Mediterranean style of eating.
The Mediterranean diet is generally characterized by a high intake of plant-based foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds. It typically uses olive oil as a primary fat source and includes moderate amounts of dairy, poultry, and fish, while limiting red meat and sweets.
The “Med Instead of Meds” program aims to guide participants through strategies to adopt this lifestyle. Organizers said the series will explore seven steps to “Go Med,” focusing on practical tips and recipes rather than relying on medication for wellness.
Sponsored by OSU Extension in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, the virtual sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. The series is open to the public.
The scheduled topics include:
- Jan. 27: Introducing the Mediterranean Way of Eating
- Feb. 24: Swap Your Fats
- March 24: Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
- April 28: Change Your Protein
- May 12: Rethink Your Sweets
Registration is available online at go.osu.edu/mednotmeds.
