COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed an executive order authorizing the distribution of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds to organizations supporting families and workforce development around the state, including those in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties.

The order allocates up to $490,000 in each of the next two fiscal years to the Catholic Charities Regional Agency. The agency will utilize the funding to provide food assistance to eligible families in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties.

Headquartered in Youngstown, Catholic Charities Regional Agency operates service sites in Warren and Lisbon. The organization offers basic needs assistance, including help with rent, utilities, prescriptions, and food, to individuals facing financial crises.

The executive order also directs up to $50,000 annually during fiscal years 2026 and 2027 to Inspiring Minds. This funding is designated for youth services in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Founded in Warren by former NFL player Deryck Toles, Inspiring Minds offers free after-school and summer enrichment programs for K-12 students. The organization focuses on five key areas: education, college and career readiness, health and wellness, personal development, and exposure to new experiences.

Program participants receive tutoring, homework help, and mentoring. To support workforce development, Inspiring Minds provides students with opportunities for paid summer internships, college visits, and career exploration trips to various industries. The organization operates chapters in both Warren and Youngstown.

Additional provisions in the order support broader initiatives that include Mahoning County. The Ohio Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs will receive up to $500,000 annually to provide workforce development services to youth in Mahoning and 19 other counties.

Furthermore, the Ohio Council of Churches is allocated up to $100,000 annually for the next two fiscal years. These funds will support family services, workforce development, temporary housing, and food assistance in Mahoning and six other counties.

The funding outlined in the executive order covers fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
