FARRELL, Pa. - A family is accused of stealing over $440,000 from a doctor's office in Farrell over the course of several years.

According to a criminal complaint, police spoke with the newly appointed manager of a doctor's office in Farrell in July of 2025 after the bank had called her to question some "high-dollar" checks that had been written.

Police say the checks were all written to David Hardin and were valued in the thousands. The woman told the bank that the doctor did not authorize any of those checks.

The new manager told police that before she took over operations, Diane Hardin managed all checks written through the office to pay for office-related expenses.

Police say the checks date back several years and amount to a total of $174,946.23.

Investigation revealed suspicious checks paid to David, Diane and Henry Hardin.

In October, police interviewed Diane and Henry regarding the suspicious checks, with Diane allegedly telling officers that the checks made out to David were loans for a landscaping business he was trying to start.

Meanwhile, Henry allegedly told police the checks made out to him were for odd jobs he did around the office years after he retired.

Police then asked Diane about the checks made out to herself. She allegedly told police that she was paid $1,845. When questioned about two checks that were worth double that amount, Diane allegedly told police those were two separate payouts for unused vacation time.

Diane also allegedly mentioned checks with advanced payment for February that she claims the doctor had authorized.

The complaint notes several more paychecks that were inconsistent with her biweekly paycheck.

From there, police spoke with the doctor, who told officers he only authorized Diane's biweekly paychecks and added that his office does not do vacation buyouts.

The doctor further told police that he did not authorize any advance payments to Diane for February either.

Furthermore, the doctor told police that Henry did do odd jobs around the office, but he was never officially employed by the office, nor did he ask for a contract or any type of payment agreement.

When asked about multiple checks made out to Henry in amounts between $4,500 and $5,000, the doctor told police he did not authorize those payments and would not have paid him that much for the services he was providing.

Finally, police asked the doctor about David, to which the doctor replied that David had never worked for him, nor did he ever authorize any checks to be paid to him.

In all, the Hardins are accused of stealing $440,199.43 from the doctor.

All three suspects are charged with second-degree felony counts of theft. David and Henry are also facing felony charges of receiving stolen property and Diane is facing a felony charge of forgery.

All three were arraigned on November 26 and are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on January 20.
