Roommate claims stolen food dispute led to stabbing in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN - Depending on who you believe, a double stabbing at a home on Youngstown’s South Side came either after a confrontation over stolen food, or two roommates smoking crack.
Joanne Dixon, 63, and Anthony Rogers, 50, were scheduled for arraignment Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court. Court dockets show both are currently facing first-degree misdemeanor assault charges related to the violence at their home on Willis Ave.
The incident began Thursday afternoon when Dixon allegedly confronted Rogers, accusing him of repeatedly stealing her food. Dixon told police she went to Rogers' bedroom to demand he stop taking her groceries. According to Dixon, the confrontation turned violent when Rogers slammed her head against a wall, dragged her down the stairs, and cut her with a knife.
Police arrived to find Dixon on the front porch with a severe cut on her right leg. Inside the residence, officers located Rogers, who had sustained a similar knife wound to his left leg. Dixon admitted to police that she grabbed a knife and cut Rogers in retaliation during the struggle.
Rogers offered a conflicting account to investigators, claiming the dispute was not about food but stemmed from the pair smoking crack cocaine together the previous night. He alleged that when he opened his door, Dixon spit on him and swung a knife, forcing him to grab a weapon to defend himself.
Both were treated for their injuries at a hospital before being booked into the Mahoning County Jail.
Police collected two knives and a cellphone from the scene as evidence.
