A potent "Alberta Clipper" will track toward eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania as the weekend gets underway. These types of winter weather systems are usually fast-moving, but can produce hefty snow rates for a handful of hours. We expect accumulating snow to get underway around mid-afternoon, with snow continuing to fall steadily for much of the evening. Our TV viewing area has a good chance of picking up 3-4 inches of fluffy snow. Amounts may be somewhat lower in northern Trumbull County.

After the clipper passes well to our east, lake-effect snow will develop late Saturday night into Sunday. As is typical with lake-effect, conditions will be variable across the region Sunday with times of fairly intense snow and times of snow-free weather. New snow accumulations will range from a coating to a handful of inches, depending on where bands persist. It will be blustery and frigid all day with wind chill values in the single digits.

The new work week will start with cold but quieter weather. Overall, a milder week is on the way with readings making it into the 40s and even 50s at times later in the week.
