According to a news release, former prosecutor and current Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas Magistrate Shelley Pratt is announcing her run as a Republican for Trumbull County Probate Judge.

Pratt has served as a magistrate for Judge Sarah Kovoor since January 2025.

As part of this role, she states in the release that she was able to preside over a variety of civil matters and serve as a member of the Drug Court team.

Pratt was admitted to practice law in 1998 and began working for Northeast Ohio Legal Services. From there, she then worked for the Ohio Public Defender's Office for five years.

In 2005, she began working for the Ashtabula County Prosecutor's Office, handling complex appeals before the 11th District Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court.

According to the release, in 2022, she left that office on good terms and began working for the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office.

Pratt indicates within the release that she will use her experience to expand public access to the court, take a hands-on approach to the court's role in adoptions and work to protect seniors, veterans and those with mental health issues in the community.

"No greater honor exists than serving the people in my community, first as a public defender, then as a prosecutor and now as a magistrate. I will work day in and day out to uphold my commitment to the people of Trumbull County if given the privilege to serve as your Probate Judge," said Pratt in the release.
