Mahoning, Trumbull County agencies receive traffic safety grants

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Several law enforcement agencies throughout Mahoning and Trumbull Counties received thousands of dollars in traffic safety improvement grants.
The funding is part of $23 million in grants from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) for Federal Fiscal Year 2026. The grants will support a wide range of initiatives, including impaired driving and selective traffic enforcement, county OVI task forces, safe community programs, summer holiday enforcement programs and more.
"From high-visibility enforcement to a variety of traffic safety education initiatives, this funding gives our local partners the tools they need to address the risks on our roads," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine in a press release.
A list of all Mahoning and Trumbull County agencies receiving grants can be found below. The list will include how much each community received and which initiative the funds will go towards.
MAHONING COUNTY:
- Mahoning County Sheriff's Office: $80,720.04 for impaired driving/selective traffic enforcement and $55,000 for safe communities.
- Youngstown Police Department: $39,354.50 for impaired driving/selective traffic enforcement
- Canfield Police Department: $250,000 for the Mahoning County OVI Task Force
- Beaver Township Police Department: $5,029.99 for summer holidays enforcement programs
TRUMBULL COUNTY:
- Warren Police Department: $208,915.28 for the Trumbull County OVI Task Force and $20,528.38 for summer holiday enforcement programs
- Fowler Township Police Department: $55,000 for safe community grants
- Hubbard Township Police Department: $17,460.88 for summer holiday enforcement programs
