WARREN TWP., Ohio - Warren Township residents will soon be able to weigh in on what needs to be changed in their area.

Trustees are revamping the comprehensive plan, a long range blueprint for future growth, that hasn't been updated since the 1980’s. The township will send out surveys to gauge what's most important to the people.

“Things have changed a lot since 1980’s in the Mahoning Valley so a lot of those items are no longer applicable and it’s time for a new plan,” Tyler Wilson, Warren Township’s newly elected Trustee said.

The questions are not solidified yet but will range from where do you want to see more sidewalks to do you want a new police or fire station.

The results will help the trustees build five, 10 and 20 year goals. One of them being how they can help the housing shortage as big companies like Kimberly Clark bring in more employees.

“We'd like to add onto that look at housing, look at the old copper weld site, look at some of the abandoned land in the township. We have a lot of land and we have a lot of opportunities available,” Wilson said.

“Our population, like all populations pretty much around Trumbull County.. has been declining so our goal is to try incorporating some kind of housing developments so we can turn around and get some more people into the township,” Ed Anthony, a Warren Township Trustee said.

Hopefully creating a domino effect to then bring in more companies for a more well-rounded, booming township.

“As a board we owe it to our residents to have some kind of plan basically in light of everything that's growth wise I think that’s going to occur,” Anthony said.

The survey will be sent out in the new year and residents will be given a few weeks to send it back. The trustees will work with the Trumbull County Planning Commission to form the comprehensive plan. Anthony said the cost hasn't been decided but will be low.
