Judge denies lower bond for man accused in stabbing at Niles shopping plaza

NILES - A Trumbull County judge has denied a request for a lower bond for the man accused in a stabbing at a shopping plaza in Niles in November.
During an arraignment hearing Tuesday morning, an attorney representing 52-year-old Kenyon Kellum requested that Kellum's $1 million bond be lowered to a "more reasonable" amount.
However, Judge Sarah Kovoor denied this request due to the seriousness of the alleged offense, as well as Kellum's violent criminal history.
Kellum was recently indicted on one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault, all with repeat violent offender specifications.
The charges stem from an incident in the Gentry Center shopping plaza near the intersection of Route 422 and Route 46 in Niles. A witness told 21 News a couple was arguing with Kellum in the parking lot when he allegedly stabbed a male victim in the neck and ran away.
Police soon found Kellum at a Days Inn hotel less than a mile away from the plaza.
Kellum is due back in court on January 6.
