Campbell City Schools has been awarded $200,000 from the Delta Dental Foundation to support the Mahoning Valley Wellness and Rehabilitation Center (MVWRC).

The MVWRC will operate within the Campbell Health and Community Development Center (CHCDC), which is currently under construction in Campbell.

"Over time, they will serve thousands of patients," Matthew Bowen, superintendent of Campbell City Schools, said. "This grant is really going to help us make sure that we can provide the health care that we need, specific to oral health."

He also added that the grant provides more than just cleanings, but will extend to student care. Through the school district's partnership with Mercy Health, Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and Youngstown State University (YSU), the center will serve as both a dental care site and a clinical training location.

"When schools, health care providers, and communities work together, something special happens," YSU President Bill Johnson stated. "We're grateful to be partnering with Campbell City Schools on this important venture."

High school students will have the chance to complete prerequisite college coursework, while adult learners and high school graduate students can participate in hands-on training to work toward a career in the dental and health care fields.

"They're making it possible for our students to receive the care they need, but beyond just the students, they're going to provide regional support even for neighboring schools, also for adults with disabilities, also for students with disabilities," Bowen said.

The Delta Dental Foundation funding will support eight fully equipped dental rooms within the MVWRC.

The MVWRC is scheduled to begin program operations in August 2026.
