"One of our programs is the food pantry, we service hundreds of families on a yearly basis," said Angelica Diaz, executive director.

Although the holiday season normally sees an increase in folks in need of food assistance, Diaz tells 21 News says it isn't the only catalyst.

"We definitely attribute that to SNAP benefits being cut, just in general things are very expensive right now so I would say a combination," Diaz added.

OCCHA recently hosted Mitzvah Day, where it collaborates with other partners like the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, giving folks access to other services like free health screenings, haircuts and household items. Now they're getting ready for Three Kings Day.

"This year it's going to be January 6. We partner with Toys for Tots and we provide toys for the kids, it's like a toy drive but it's also a community event," said Diaz.

Families can come in once a month to pick up food and clothing items. OCCHA is open Monday-Thursday 9-4, all you need is a valid I-D.
