Youngstown council approves future 'Valley Legends' stadium

Youngstown council voted to approve the land sale of the former South High School fieldhouse to become 'Valley Legends' stadium on Wednesday.
The nearly six acres on Erie Street will be transformed into a multi-million dollar athletic complex with state of the art facilities. One Youngstown city councilman says this project is one of many that will help serve Valley Christian students and surrounding communities.
"It'll be a great addition to everything that's going on, the Boys and Girls Club, everything that's going on. Redevelopment on the south side, different housing projects that are happening, a new high school, another educational alternative is going to be there for the city and it'll be something that honors all the South High warriors from the past as well," First Ward Councilman Julius Oliver told 21 News.
Michael Pecchia, the president of Valley Christian Schools, first unveiled plans for the site in September 2023.
The $64,460.00 purchase and subsequent plan will include football field and running track improvements, bleachers on one side of the field, and a new entranceway at Erie Street.
Now that the land has been officially acquired, construction on phase one of the project can begin, but there's no completion date just yet.
