WARREN - A local man facing a felony assault charge remained in his jail cell Wednesday morning, forcing a judge to delay his first court appearance.

Mickel Jerome Hall, 63, was scheduled for a video arraignment in Warren Municipal Court at 9:45 a.m. However, court records show the hearing could not move forward because Hall refused to leave his cell.

Judge Natasha K. Natale rescheduled the hearing for Thursday morning.

The court appearance follows a series of events that began Monday night. Warren police officers responded to a home on Clermont Avenue NE after receiving reports that a woman had been shot in the chest. Witnesses told officers that Hall had already left the scene in a vehicle.

Later that night, authorities found Hall at the Days Inn on Route 422 in Niles. Following a standoff where Hall reportedly refused to leave his hotel room, officers used tear gas to take him into custody early Tuesday morning.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. Information regarding her current medical condition has not been released.

Hall faces a charge of felonious assault. He also has open cases involving charges of driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Hall remains in custody while awaiting his next scheduled court time.
