Greenville Symphony Orchestra to host holiday concert

GREENVILLE, Pa. - EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story listed the wrong date for the concert. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025.
The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will perform its "Home Alone and Holiday Hits" concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring a mix of seasonal favorites and classical selections.
Music Director Michael Gelfand, now in his 24th year with the orchestra, will lead the performance. The program includes the GSO Jazz Band, the SAY Children’s Chorus, and the Shenango Valley Chorale.
The concert lineup features music from the movie "Home Alone," as well as "Greensleeves," "Festive Sounds of Hanukkah," and "Waltz of the Flowers" from "The Nutcracker." The GSO Jazz Band is scheduled to play music from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock."
Gelfand said the program is designed to include music that both the audience and the musicians enjoy. The performance will also include "The Bells of Christmas," a traditional sing-along, and Leroy Anderson’s "Sleigh Ride."
Guest soloists include soprano Emily Misch and baritone Max Pivik. Misch, who has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, will sing "Queen of the Night" from Mozart’s "The Magic Flute." Pivik will perform selections from "The Barber of Seville" and "Carmen."
The event marks a family collaboration for the director, as Gelfand will be joined on stage by his children, Peter and Lily Gelfand, who both play the cello.
"The energy that the musicians have is definitely fueled by our audience," said Tom Fleet, president of the Greenville Symphony Society. Fleet, who also performs in the symphony, noted that the orchestra has focused on the theme "Music brings us together" since returning to in-person performances.
Krystal Miller, president of the Shenango Valley Chorale, said the group is eager to collaborate with the orchestra. Members of the chorale recently completed a series of madrigal dinners and holiday concerts in the area.
Tickets are available at thegreenvillesymphony.org. They can also be purchased at the door starting one hour before the performance.
