Mercer Area Middle-High School wins 'fan favorite' award in PennDOT 'Paint the Plow' contest

OIL CITY, Pa. - A Shenango Valley school was one of the lucky winners of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT's) "Paint the Plow" contest.
This year, Mercer Area Middle-High School in Mercer Borough won the "fan favorite" award, receiving the most votes on PennDOT's website. The school received a total of 427 votes.
Commodore Perry High School in Hadley finished in a close second place.
This year's theme was "Don't Race. Allow Some Space."
The winning students captured that theme with what appears to be an homage to the Mario Kart video game series, depicting multiple racers, including their Mustang mascot, racing on Rainbow Road and a snail on a cloud wearing a "Slow" road sign as a necklace.
Drivers will see the student-painted plow blades on PennDOT's plow trucks as they treat the roadways throughout the winter season.
