Both Mercer County and Lawrence County in Pennsylvania have received a combined total of roughly $4.2 million to help fund various projects throughout the counties.

In a news release, Senator Michele Brooks (R-50) and Representative Marla Brown (R-9) announced on Thursday that $2.2 million in funding is bound for several community improvement projects across Lawrence County.

Additionally, in a separate Thursday news release, Senator Brooks and Representatives Parke Wentling (R-7) and Tim Bonner (R-17) announced that $2 million in funding would go to several improvement projects in Mercer County.

Funding for Lawrence County comes from Local Share Account (LSA) grants and Act 13 allocations, while funding for Mercer County comes from LSA grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

In Mercer County, the following projects were approved:

  • Delaware Township - Backhoe and Trailer Replacement for $192,300
  • Hempfield Township - Street Sweeper Replacement for $200,000
  • Greenville Borough - Demolition of Blighted Structures for $113,599
  • Greenville Borough - Vacant Building Renovation for $47,300
  • Grove City Borough - Wolf Creek Watershed Storm Water Improvements for $200,000
  • Mercer County - Mercer County Public Safety Initiative for $138,652
  • Sandy Lake Borough - Police Interceptor Vehicle and Upfitting Project for $58,024
  • Sharon City - North Sharon Fire Hall Renovation for $700,000
  • South Pymatuning Township - Police Vehicle Replacement for $50,000
  • West Middlesex Borough - Roadway Resurfacing for $53,000
  • The City of Hermitage will receive $150,000 from the CFA's Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to construct a pavilion at the Stull Nature Reserve Environmental Learning Center
  • Sharon City will receive $100,000 for the CFA's Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to add field lighting at the Sharon Little League Field

In Lawrence County, the following projects were approved:

  • Bessemer Municipal Authority - Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanical Bare Screen Project for $325,000
  • Mahoning Township - Wastewater Treatment Plant and Pump Station Upgrades for $625,000
  • Neshannock Township - Hutchinson Community Center Improvements, Phase II for $328,722
  • New Castle Santitation Authority - Combination Sewer Flusher Truck and Dump Truck for $350,000
  • New Wilmington Borough - Vine Street Business District Improvement Project for $100,000
  • North Beaver Township Municipal Authority - Grinder Pump Replacement Project for $100,000
  • Washington Township - Fire Tanker Acquisition for $200,000
  • City of New Castle - NCPL Carousel Building for $100,000 through Act 13 funding
  • Taylor Township - Taylor Township Park Rehabilitation for $50,000 through Act 13 funding

"From public safety to infrastructure upgrades, downtown revitalization, community centers and recreational improvements, these projects represent meaningful investments that will add to our quality of life, as well as help Mercer County grow and thrive," said Brooks.

Additionally, Bonner commented on the funding headed for Mercer County.

"I'm pleased to learn about the investments in Mercer County," said Bonner.

Bonner continued," These projects will make a direct impact by improving our infrastructure, public safety and community services. It's good to see this funding going to areas where it's needed."

"This funding represents real, tangible progress for Lawrence County," said Brown.

Brown continued," By investing in wastewater systems, emergency services and community spaces, we are addressing long-standing infrastructure needs while making our towns safer, stronger and better equipped for the future."
