The Ohio State University (OSU) Extension - Mahoning County is offering a class series to learn about making lasting lifestyle changes to prevent or lower the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes, in Canfield, starting in January 2026.

PreventT2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program led by the Centers for Disease Controla nd Prevention (CDC). As a part of the three-month-long course, group sessions are led by a trained lifestyle coach to help participants learn skills involving eating healthier, increasing physical activity, managing stress and staying motivated.

According to an OSU news release, one in three American adults has prediabetes, a health condition where an individual's blood sugar is higher than normal, but low enough to not be considered diabetic.

"Being part of a supportive group can make all the difference," LuAnn Duncan, family and consumer services educator at OSU Extension - Mahoning County, stated. "Participants gain tools for better health and support from others working toward the same goals."

The program begins Jan. 28 and will meet weekly until April 29, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The classes will take place at 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield. Pre-registration is required, and more information can be found on the organization's website.
