Power restored to most in New Middletown, Springfield Township

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Over 700 homes and businesses are without power in the areas of New Middletown and Springfield Township Friday afternoon.
According to FirstEnergy's website, a total of 766 customers were without power as of 3 p.m. Friday with New Middletown reporting 555 outages and Springfield Township reporting another 211.
As of 3:30 p.m., that number has drastically reduced to just 26 outages in Springfield Township. Power is completely restored in New Middletown.
A spokesperson for FirstEnergy tells 21 News the outage happened shortly after 2 p.m. after a vehicle struck a utility pole on Struthers Road near East Calla Road.
The spokesperson 21 News AT&T has been called out to the scene to repair the pole. At this time, power is expected to be restored to the remaining customers by 5 p.m.
This outage caused the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County's (PLYMC's) Springfield branch to close for the remainder of the day. No other PLYMC branch is affected.
