A mild start but cold end to the weekend

After a rambunctious Friday, the weekend will be much calmer.
The final day of astronomical autumn will start with a bit of sunshine in the morning, followed by increasing clouds throughout the second half of the day. Temperatures will begin in the upper teens but rise to the low 40s, and winds will pick up, gusting to 25 mph at times.
Clouds will clear partially by Sunday morning, with temperatures falling to the upper 20s, quickly rising to the low 30s, and then falling again throughout the day. Winds will pick up again on Sunday, with wind chill values dipping into the teens. It's fitting that such a cold forecast is on the way on Sunday, as Sunday is the Winter Solstice. Sunday will be marked by the shortest amount of daylight at 9 hours and 13 minutes, with the total daylight increasing by over a minute per day starting in mid January.
Next week is trending largely quiet and overall warmer than the average, too.
A mix of rain and snow will transition to all rain Monday night into Tuesday morning, before showers remain scattered mainly in the morning on Tuesday.
Christmas Eve will be quiet and cloudy with temperatures peaking to the low 40s in the afternoon.
If you're dreaming of a grey Christmas, you'll get your wish. Showers be around from time to time, and an overcast sky will dominate all day. Temperatures will be on the mild side, surging to the low 50s in the afternoon.
