Christmas traditions are apparent in many different cultures, but on Friday in Youngstown, the celebrated traditions were simply kept Slavic.

"Home for the Slavidays" took place at Penguin City Brewing with a Christmas Market, polka music, and Saint Nicholas greeting guests as they entered the brewery. The evening was full of different ways to keep Slavic traditions alive.

Simply Slavic, a non-profit organization with a mission to educate the large number of Slavic descendants in the area, hosted the event.

"We often find that people will approach us and say, 'Oh my gosh! I remember this! My grandma used to do it, but when Grandma died, the traditions went with her,' so now this is a way of reinstilling them and giving an opportunity to reignite that passion," Simply Slavic Vice President Aundrea Cikaheschmeyer said.

Cikaheschmeyer added that the event is an effort to showcase Slavic Christmas traditions and show others why the holiday season is such a vibrant time for the Slavic culture.

"When you ask anyone, including me, what is your favorite memory of being Polish? You think about Christmas Eve," she said. "So for us, this is what it's all about, so we want to share with everyone else."

The event was also full of Simply Slavic merch, kolachi and a visit from Krampus.
