WARREN - Two people are facing charges after two dogs were found abandoned in a garage in Warren.

According to a Facebook post from Healthy Hearts & Paws Project President and CEO Jason Cooke, Warren police were called to a home on Clemmens Avenue NW in Warren after two dogs were found in a crate in a garage.

Cooke said an emaciated chihuahua and an emaciated pit bull terrier were found in the crate, which was filled with feces and urine-soaked bedding.

Cooke says the chihuahua was found dead, but the pit bull was still alive and is now safe at the Healthy Hearts & Paws Project's animal complex in Warren.

According to court records, 46-year-old Robert Helman and 34-year-old Jessica Mort are both charged with two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to companion animals and one felony count of prohibitions concerning companion animals.

Court records show warrants have been issued for both suspects.
