HERMITAGE - Residents of the City of Hermitage can expect to pay a bit more on their property tax bills beginning next year.

Hermitage Director of Business and Development Mark Longietti tells 21 News the city's property tax rates have remained the same for the past 34 years. Over that time, inflation has eaten away at the purchasing power of the revenue generated from property taxes.

This will be a two-mill increase, with city officials saying this will cost most residents around $5 extra per month, or $60 per year, on their property tax bills.

Hermitage City Manager Gary Hinkson tells 21 News this increase is expected to generate an extra $534,000 in 2026. This revenue will be spent on the paving of residential neighborhood streets.

“The city has 104 miles of city streets and with cost what they are it is a challenge to continue to maintain them," Hinkson said.

“We don't want our neighborhoods to fall down we want our citizens to know that we care about the neighborhoods, we’re investing,” Longietti said.

Moving forward, the money will be used for various infrastructure projects throughout the city, including street paving.
